To Keep His Word
To Keep His Word
Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
John 15:20
We behave according to what we believe. As Christ continues to prepare His disciples for the impending persecution which they would face, He explains the response they would receive to their preaching of Christ. He says, of those who oppose, ‘If they kept My word, they will keep yours also.’ Here is the division between those who believe in Christ and those who do not. Some people will believe Christ in all that He has said. They will behave according to that belief. Others will not believe, and will behave according to that point of view. Historically, those who have not believed in Christ and refused to keep His word, have also rejected His people and gone so far as to vigorously persecute them. We may begin with the example of Cain and Abel, and trace the scarlet thread through history. Christ is the Continental Divide of all humanity. Allegiance to Christ transcends denominations, sects, culture, race and social status. We are either with Him or against Him. We believe His words or we refuse to believe them. As we relay His message, that He is ‘the way, the truth, and the life,’ we may expect the same reception that He received. We are not ashamed of Him, His words, or His message. He is ours, and we are His forever.
Our Good and Gracious Savior,
we praise You that we may follow You wherever You lead us.
We rejoice that we who hope in You,
shall never be ashamed.
