‘The Zeal of The Lord of Hosts’
‘The Zeal of The Lord of Hosts’
Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
Isaiah 9:7
God hastens His Word to perform it. He has His eternal agenda. It involves the redemption of His Elect and the ultimate establishment of His eternal Kingdom. It also ultimately means that ‘Jesus shall reign where’er the sun, doth his successive journeys run.’ At the end of this glorious text, we see the seal which God puts upon all that He has said, by the mouth of His prophet. He declares, ‘the zeal of the Lord of Hosts will perform this.’ Of what can we be absolutely certain? We can be certain that God will do all that He has promised, and that He will do it in His appointed time. It was ‘in the fullness of time’ that God sent forth Christ on the occasion of His incarnation. It will be ‘in the fullness of time’ that He will send Christ again to show Himself as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. God is zealous to accomplish the exaltation of Christ. He is zealous to make the crooked straight and to right the wrongs. He is zealous to do judgment and justice, that Christ may have the glory. Therefore, we look to ‘the Lord of Hosts’ to do all that He has said, according to His Word and by His Holy Zeal.
O, Lord of Hosts,
we praise You that You will do all that You have said.
We rejoice that Christ will get all the glory,
and that we shall behold Him in His exaltation.
