‘His Glory’

Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

Ephesians 1:14

In every detail, in the matter of redemption, God deserves the glory.  As we have been discussing what it means to be ‘in Christ,’ it has brought us to consider some powerful subjects.  We have contemplated election, predestination, adoption, the Sovereignty of God, and His eternal decrees.  As the Apostle Paul writes the first chapter of Ephesians, he reiterates the formular statement, ‘to the praise of His glory.’  Here is a large concept upon which we can meditate again and again.  All creation exist for the glory of God.  All that occurs within the course of human history, He will overrule for His Own glory according to His eternal decrees.  Nowhere does the glory of God shine more brightly than in His accomplishment of redemption.  Therefore, the Apostle Paul, while writing upon the subject of what it means to be ‘in Christ,’ continues to sound this refrain, ‘to the praise of His glory.’  This is a glorious anticipation for the scenes of Heaven.  There we see around the Throne of God, ‘a great multitude which no man could number, of all nations, and kindred, and people, and tongues.’  This is their cry, ‘Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.  And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God, saying, Amen:  Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honor, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever.  Amen.’  All of eternity will only be long enough for His redeemed to sing His praises and to give Him glory.  This is our future by Free and Sovereign Grace.

Our Glorious, Living God,
we rejoice that we exist for Your Glory.
We praise You that You use us
according to the counsel of Your Own Will,
to bring You praise and honor.
