‘The Glory Of His Inheritance’

‘The Glory Of His Inheritance’
The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints.
Ephesians 1:18
God deserves all the glory for the fact that we are His children and that as His children we have a glorious inheritance. We want to linger over this concept for a little while. Earlier in the chapter, Paul made reference to the fact that, in Him, that is, in Christ, ‘we have obtained an inheritance.’ When we discussed that subject, we mentioned that it is the children of the family who receive the inheritance. We know from what Paul wrote earlier that God ‘predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ.’ This means that God has adopted us into His family and has granted us ‘all the rights and privileges of the sons of God.’ One of those privileges is this inheritance of which we have been speaking. We may also be so bold as to say that it is a right. We have a right to this inheritance because God has given it to us in Christ. All that is Christ’s is ours by virtue of that indissoluble union wherein He is the Head and we are His Body. This is a tremendous concept for us to grasp, because it enables us to see more clearly the virtue and value of Christ. We look not to ourselves as being worthy of obtaining this inheritance. We look to Christ, and value Him by whom, ‘we have obtained an inheritance.’
Great God of Wonders,
we rejoice at the wealth which You have bestowed upon us in Christ.
We praise You that this inheritance that we have in Him
expands before our eyes
as a present possession and a glorious expectation.
