Renewed

And be renewed in the spirit of your mind….

Ephesians 4:23

How can we be ‘renewed in the spirit of (our) mind?’  If Paul makes such a statement, there are some implications that go with it.  One of those implications is that the spirit of our mind is subject to change and wear, so much so that it would need renewal.  The next question which would arise would be if the spirit of my mind needs renewal, and Paul is enjoining me to ‘be renewed,’ what can I do to aid and abet that renewal?  In practical terms, we look to Christ, in very specific ways.  As we come to the reading of the Word of God, we look to see Christ there.  As we come to the place of prayer, we desire to meet with Christ.  As we approach the place of worship and hear the preaching of the Scriptures, we want to see Christ and hear of Him.  These are the practical means which God has afforded us to experience the ‘renewal of the spirit of our mind.’  As the Holy Spirit takes the things of Christ, and shows them unto us, it will contribute this work.  As we seek Christ, by making use of these means of grace, let us ever more desire that the Holy Spirit will do His work to show us Christ, so that we may be thus renewed in the spirit of our mind.

Our Good and Generous God,
we rejoice that You have bestowed upon us,
abundant means of Grace, whereby we may seek Christ.
We praise You, that each day, we have
the opportunity to make use of these means
that we may draw near to Him.
