An Everlasting Love

The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.
Jeremiah 31:3
God is love, and His love is an everlasting love. Because He is eternal, so also His love must be from eternity unto eternity. Jeremiah understood even though God was in the process of chastising the people of Israel for their waywardness, yet He loved them and was drawing them unto Himself with unfailing kindness, patience, faithfulness and loyalty. He would not abandon them, or diminish His love for them. This love and the demonstration of it, extends unto all the people of God whom He saves by free and sovereign Grace. To be chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world; to be predestinated unto the adoption of children; to be raised from being dead in trespasses and sins, to be saved by grace through faith; to be made members of the Body of Christ, is to become one with Israel, for in Christ, there is neither Jew or Gentile, male or female, Barbarian, Scythian, bond or free, for Christ is all and in all. This means that this everlasting love of which our text speaks extends to us and to all the redeemed. It is this ‘love of Christ which surpasses knowledge.’ There is no other love like this, in heaven, earth, or hell.
Our Gracious Loving God,
we rejoice that Your love for us in Christ,
never dies.
We praise You that You have demonstrated Your
love unto us from eternity,
and shall continue unto eternity.
