By My Spirit

Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, this is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.
Zechariah 4:6
The Holy Spirit of God has been at work as long as have the other two Members of the Trinity. It could well be said of the Spirit, as it was of Christ, ‘whose goings forth have been from of old, even from everlasting.’ Therefore, it should not surprise us to see the Holy Spirit at work in the Old Testament. Also, it should not surprise us to see that the purpose and plan of God, inasmuch as He employs people to accomplish it, only goes forward by the work of His Spirit through them. Humanity loves to believe in the power of plans, programs, and personal ability. By contrast, especially in spiritual endeavors, Christ said, ‘without Me you can do nothing.’ The Spirit is the effective Agent through Whom God accomplishes His purposes in the advancement of His Kingdom. This was true in the days of Zechariah, in the days of Paul who wrote to the Ephesians, and in our day as well. It is the Holy Spirit Who strengthened the Ephesians with might in the inner man. It is that same Spirit Who is able to strengthen us in order that we clearly understand that in all spiritual advancement it is, ‘not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Hosts.’ He will show us Christ and strengthen us.
Our Glorious Living God,
we rejoice that You will accomplish all that You intend.
We praise You that where human ability fails,
the Holy Spirit by His power, will succeed.
