A Willing Ignorance

A Willing Ignorance

For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old; and the earth standing out of the water and in the water.

II Peter 3:5

Few things frustrate us as does willing ignorance.  When an individual or group of individuals prefers to remain ignorant in the face of available information, we shake our heads at the brazenness of it all.  Peter refers to those who are willingly ignorant in regard to creation.  He declares that these refuse to countenance what God has declared, ‘In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.’  There are logical implications which follow this statement, all of which lead us to face our responsibility, and accountability to God.  This makes the acceptance of creation unpalatable because it brings us to discuss the violation of God’s law and the need for Christ.  It is impossible to cure ignorance while maintaining arrogance.  If we are to genuinely learn, we must begin in humility and learn from what God reveals.  This will lead us to Christ.  He was involved in creation and has gone on to accomplish redemption.  In His light, we shall see light.  We set before you the whole of the revelation, from beginning to end, to point you to Christ, the Author and Finisher of our faith.

Our Holy and Wise God,
we rejoice at the ways in which You have manifested Your wisdom.
We praise You that You have given us Your Word,
that it enables us to understand our origins,
and that it brings us to Christ.
