Faith In Death

These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
Hebrews 11:13
What is it to die in faith? According to the writer of Hebrews, it is to be certain of the fulfillment of the promises of God even though we may not see them come to pass in our lifetime. All the people whom the writer lists are people who, ‘died in faith.’ They had received the promises of God, but not the fulfillment of those promises. Abraham never saw Christ, the Lamb Whom the Lord would provide. Moses never saw Christ the Prophet like himself. David never saw Christ, the Good, Great, and Chief Shepherd. ‘These all died in faith.’ Yet, in due course of time, Christ did come as the Lamb, the Prophet, the Shepherd, and the King. Beyond that, according to His word, He will come again. If these all died in faith of Christ’s first coming, and all that they expected by faith came to pass, certainly we can live by faith and die in faith that He will be as good as His word again. Our faith rests upon the promises of the same God. Our hope is in the same Christ. Our faith rests upon the same foundation, the Word of God which lives and abides forever. With this faith we can live and in this faith we can die.
O, God of Grace and Glory,
we rejoice that You are as good as Your Word.
we praise You that everything that You have promised
to all Your people in every age
shall infallibly, inerrantly, come to pass.
