Why Give God Glory?

Why Give God Glory?

Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

Ephesians 3:20-21

If we are to give God glory, we should know why. Our adoration of God should be informed and intelligent.  Why do we give God glory?  The first reason is because of Who He is. ‘God is a spirit, infinite, eternal and unchangeable in His Being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth.’  As such, He is worthy of glory simply for Who and What He is.  The second reason for giving God glory is His work.  Our text states this explicitly.  God is ‘able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think.’  The work which God has done above all we ask or think relates to Christ.  God chose us in Christ.  His work to bring us to Himself has been by Christ.  He is working by His Spirit to make us like Christ.  Whereas God is working in much larger ways than we can comprehend, in a personal way for each of us, He is doing exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think.  Therefore, because of His Person and His work we give Him glory.  This makes the most excellent sense for us.  It gives purpose and meaning to life far beyond mere survival.  It means that we can aim at giving Him glory whether we eat or drink or whatever we do.  When we give God glory, we do so for most excellent reasons, for He is worthy.

Our Gracious Master and Our God,
we rejoice that You have given us
the privilege of glorifying You.
We praise You that daily we find new opportunities
to magnify Your Name.
