By One Spirit

For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body – whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free – and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.
I Corinthians 12:13
The Holy Spirit is the Chief Executive Officer of Redemption. It is the Holy Spirit Who effectively applies to us the redemption purchased by Christ. When we come to the discussion of baptism into the Body of Christ, we see Paul declaring that this baptism is the Holy Spirit’s work. This is consistent with everything else we know about the application of this redemption. We were born, dead in trespasses and sins. We have no spiritual life without the work of the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit, Who has made us alive who were ‘dead in trespasses and sins.’ He has ‘raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.’ From these statements, and more which we could set forth, we arrive at the conclusion that the Holy Spirit has done the work also of baptizing us into the Body of Christ. So, the balance of what we know about the Spirit’s work corroborates this statement of Paul regarding this spiritual baptism. The practical conclusion we may reach from this is the assurance that since this work is done by the Spirit and not by our own will or work that we can be confident, not in ourselves but, in Him to confirm our standing in grace.
Our Holy and Wise God,
we rejoice that Your Holy Spirit has done what is necessary
to bring us to You.
We praise You that being in Christ,
by His Power, we shall never be out of Christ.
