Your Redeemer

Your Redeemer

Fear not, you worm Jacob, You men of Israel!  I will help you, says the Lord and your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.

Isaiah 41:14

Christ is in all the Scriptures.  When Christ preached Christ to His disciples, He began at Moses and all the Prophets’ and ‘expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.’  Isaiah is forward in setting forth Christ.  He shows us Christ on the Throne and on the cross.  As God is addressing the complaint of Israel that He was ignoring them and refusing to countenance their just claim, He brings them to Christ, ‘your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.’  Israel had grown weak and weary in their waiting for God to move.  This resulted in a petulant spirit which accused God of having cast them away.  God responds that He has not cast them away and promises to strengthen and uphold them.  In our text He says, ‘I will help you,’ and then identifies Himself as ‘Jehovah and your Redeemer.’  Thus, He brings them to Christ.  He brings us to Christ as well.  We may have become weak, out of patience, and perhaps even petulant with what we perceive as God ignoring us.  He has not.  All that He has done by Christ to us, for us, in us, and with us indicates that He is accomplishing His perfect work.  When we can see nothing else we need but to see Christ.

Our Gracious God and our Redeemer,
we rejoice that You have brought up our lives from destruction.
we praise You that even though, at times, we feel alone,
yet, You are with us and will help us
in every way in which we stand in need.
