The Unassuming Christ

Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, and as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; and when we see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him.
Isaiah 53:1-2
Christ presented Himself to us in an unassuming manner. Isaiah spends the entire 53rd Chapter speaking of Christ, most specifically detailing His sufferings and sacrifice. As he introduces the subject, he speaks of the manner in which Christ presented Himself to humanity. As we look to the New Testament, we see that all Isaiah prophesied came true. His birth was to humble people, Mary and His stepfather Joseph, in inauspicious circumstances in the stable in Bethlehem. Shortly after the birth, the family fled to Egypt to avoid the murderous plot of Herod. When they returned, they went to Nazareth, a much despised town in Galilee. There Christ entered the trade of His stepfather Joseph and continued in construction until about the age of thirty. When He began to speak publicly, many discounted Him because of His humble origins. Thus, ‘He has no form or comeliness, and when we see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him.’ Here is God, robed in human flesh and unassuming in that form. So He presents Himself to us, that we may marvel at all that follows.
Our Gracious Master and our God,
we rejoice that You have come to us in such a humble way.
We praise You that You have accomplished great things,
on our behalf, as the Son of Man.
