Truth

And they made His grave with the wicked, but with the rich at His death, because He had done no violence, nor was any deceit in His mouth.
Isaiah 53:9
Christ spoke truth. This was especially evident during His arrest and trial. When the high priest put Him under oath to tell them if He was the Son of God, Christ responded, ‘It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.’ When Pilate asked Him, ‘Are You the King of the Jews.’ He answered, ‘It is as you say.’ His statement to His disciples was, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’ This is what Christ said about Himself. Thus, because He always spoke truth, under all circumstances and conditions there was no deceit in His mouth. This is the pattern for the followers of Christ. He is the Divine Example and His life the template for our life. If we speak truth, we do so as the imitators of Christ. There is no context where the truth is not appropriate. The imitation of Christ in this truth-telling will stand out in stark contrast to the lies and duplicity which abounds around us. It will provoke animosity, and enmity. Christ’s way is the way of His people. His cause is never advanced by what is contrary to His behavior, no matter how high the aim. In His mouth was no deceit.
Our Wise and Holy Savior,
we rejoice that You are the Word of God,
and that You speak words of truth.
We praise You that as we contemplate You,
we can learn to imitate You.
