With The Rich

With The Rich

And they made His grave with the wicked, but with the rich at His death, because He had done no violence, nor was any deceit in His mouth.

Isaiah 53:9

Christ occupied the grave of a wealthy man. The Gospels record this, saying that Joseph of Arimathea went to Pilate, asked for the body of Jesus, received it, and placed it in his own tomb. This was a fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy and another confirmation of the fact that he was preaching Christ. We observe several things about the tomb of Christ. In that it belonged to Joseph, it was a borrowed tomb. Throughout His life. Christ, for all intents and purposes, had no home. He said, ‘Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.’ Thus, at His death, He had no tomb. Joseph, kindly lent Him his. Because the Jewish leaders were aware He had promised to rise from the dead, they appealed to Pilate to have soldiers guard the place where He lay. Thus, it was a guarded tomb.  On Sunday morning there was an earthquake, the guards fled, and an angel rolled back the stone. Christ came forth, alive, and began to show Himself to His followers. Thus, the tomb of Christ was an empty tomb. The resurrection of Christ is one of the most well-attested facts in history. Hundreds of people saw Him alive and testified that they had. His tomb is still empty.

Our Wise and Glorious God,
we rejoice at the fulfillment of all these prophecies.
We praise You that all that You promised regarding Christ,
has come to pass.
