Fullness Of Joy

You will show me the path of life; 
In Your presence is fullness of joy; 
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. 

Psalm 16:11 

Where will we find fullness of joy? There are things in life which afford us joy. We find it in natural beauty, in music, in art, in personal relationships and in the satisfaction of work well-done. Each of these may provide us some joy. Having said that, none of these things individually, or even added together, can give us what we would describe as fullness of joy. David remarks, ‘In your presence is fullness of joy.’ If we look to the things of time and sense to bring us fullness of joy, they will fail. Only Christ brings us such joy. We are both temporal and eternal. As we exist here, we can find some joy in temporal things. Our souls are only really capable of fullness of joy by what is eternal. Christ is eternal, and provides that fullness of joy for eternal souls. David understood that the more he experienced the Presence of Christ the more joy he would have. It is even so with us. As we experience the Presence of Christ daily it gives us joy that will only increase with eternity. 

Our Glorious, Living Christ, 
we rejoice that You abide with us. 
We praise You that, day-by-day,  
You give us joy by Your Presence.
