Led By The Spirit

Therefore, brethren, we are debtors – not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.  

Romans 8:12-14 

Who does the Holy Spirit lead? According to our text, He leads the children of God. The fact He does lead them is an indicator of who they are. What does that really mean? If we believe that salvation is of the Lord, then every inclination toward Christ is the indication that God is doing a work of grace in the life of the individual. The Holy Spirit regenerates us. He brings us to repentance. He gives us faith. He indwells us. He renews us in the whole person after the image of Christ. He enables us to die more and more unto sin and live unto righteousness. He leads us along the path of life to make decisions that glorify God. He plants His fruit within us and grows that fruit until we exhibit love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance. None of these are natural qualities. They are the result of being led by the Spirit of God. They are, by this leadership, the qualities which the true children of God exhibit. We are what we are by the grace of God.  

Our Good and Kind God, 
We rejoice in the work of Your Holy Spirit. 
We praise You that He applies unto us 
the redemption purchased by Christ.
