A Branch Of Righteousness

A Branch Of Righteousness

In those days and at that time I will cause to grow up to David A Branch of righteousness; He shall execute judgment and righteousness in the earth. In those days Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will dwell safely. And this is the name by which she will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

Jeremiah 33:15-16

Christ is the Righteous Branch from the family tree of David the king of Israel. He is David’s Greater Son. David had good evangelical knowledge of Christ. He spoke of Him as his Lord when he said, ‘The LORD said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool.’ Christ made much of David’s evangelical knowledge when He challenged His enemies, ‘What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He? They said to Him, The Son of David. He said to them, How then does David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord,’ saying: The LORD said to my Lord, sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool? If David then calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his Son?’ As Jeremiah was writing his prophecy, he made the connection between David and Christ in the words of our text by quoting God Himself. He spoke clearly of the Person and work of Christ. It is Christ Who grew up of the house and lineage of David. It is Christ Who executes judgment and justice. It is Christ Who is the Savior of Judah and of all those who believe. It is Christ Who will cause all His redeemed to dwell safely in the New Jerusalem. There, the premier title borne by the Body of Christ, will be, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. Jeremiah and David were united in their view of Christ. All the rest of the prophets, evangelists, and apostles added their testimony to the message that Christ is our righteousness. We have no new message. We preach what we have received of them. Christ is all.

Our Great God and our Savior,
we rejoice that Christ is our righteousness.
We praise You that all Your prophets,
have proclaimed Him.
