More Reasons We Fear

Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
Luke 12:32
Are there more things that make us fear than what we mentioned yesterday? According to Christ, there are. He addresses those things in the passage which precedes our text. He says, ‘Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on.’ He goes on to elaborate by saying that the ravens neither sow nor reap and God feeds them, adding that we are of more value than the birds. He points out that by our worry, we are not able to change our height, saying, ‘If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest?’ He then uses the lilies of the field as examples of His clothing of those who are least, and who make no effort to do for themselves. What do we fear? We fear want. We fear we will not have enough food, clothing, or shelter. We fear the want of basic necessities. Christ says, ‘For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things. But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you.’ David remarked, ‘The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.’ Because Christ is our Shepherd and we are His ‘little flock,’ He will see to all our needs from the most basic of here and now, to our eternal future. We have many things which cause us fear, but we have the greatest Provider Who allays our fears and meets our deepest needs. It is His good pleasure to be our God.
Our Gracious and Generous God.
We rejoice that You know our deepest need.
We praise You that by Your power,
You move to meet those needs.
