He Has Founded It

He Has Founded It

The earth is the LORD’S, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein. For He has founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the waters.

Psalm 24:1-2

Creation is a fact. Because it is, there are far-reaching implications. As the first portion of our text puts it, ‘The earth is the Lord’s.’ What is more pertinent and personal is that it included, ‘The world and those who dwell therein.’ This means that all who dwell within the world are His. No amount of much-vaunted theorizing can erase this truth. The problem arises when those who are His attempt to avoid their responsibility to Him. This gives rise to the idea that all that is has come to be by some completely non-sensical random occurrences of chance.  This really just demonstrates the lengths to which we as humans will go to avoid this responsibility to the One Who has founded the earth upon the seas. The conclusion of the matter is that He will never come to call any into account. Peter refers to this idea and relates it to creation. He quotes the deniers, ‘where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation. For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water.’ He is saying that the denial of the fact of creation is the result of a willful ignorance. In a de facto way this is a denial of Christ, Who  is the Creator according to Scripture. For us to acknowledge and affirm creation is to acknowledge and affirm Christ and His rights as God. He has done the work. He deserves the glory. We owe our allegiance to Him.

Great God of Wonders,
we rejoice that You have created all things.
We praise You that You
rule over all You have created.
