Who Is This King?

Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O you gates! Lift up you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory. Selah
Psalm 24:8-10
The whole of the Old Testament is the preparation for the coming of Christ. All the prophets give witness to Him. David was one of those prophets. When he asks the question, ‘Who is this King of glory?’ he is moving us toward Christ. When Joshua was about to enter Canaan and lead the children of Israel into the land of blessing Christ appeared to him in battle garb and identified Himself as the Commander of the LORD’s army. David and Joshua followed the same Commander. Christ the King of glory is the LORD of hosts. We see Him clearly in this role as John depicts Him in Revelation 19. There Christ appears on a white horse, robed for battle. The identifying marks of His rank read, ‘KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.’ Joshua, David, and John are all clear about Who this is. We are clear as well. Christ, not man, is King. He is both the King of glory and the LORD of hosts. If we are clear about this, we understand why it is important that we make much of Christ. Of all the things upon which we may spend our time, this is the most important. Other pursuits may be worthy and have their place. We have our responsibilities and our priorities. Above, through and with all these things is the practice of exalting Christ, the King of glory and the LORD of hosts.
Our Gracious Master and our God,
we rejoice at the glory of who You are.
We praise You that we have the privilege to follow You,
everywhere You lead us.
