But Also For Us

Now it was not written for his sake alone that it was imputed to him, but also for us. It shall be imputed to us who believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification.
Romans 4:23-25
Abraham is the Father of the Faithful. Earlier in the passage Paul referred to him as ‘the father of us all.’ Paul brings the argument of the passage to the point that he refers again to the first mention of imputed righteousness in Genesis and reiterates it saying that ‘it was accounted to him for righteousness.’ Having said it as clearly as he has, Paul moves on to his application with the words we find in our text. He says that the statement of imputed righteousness, ‘was not written for his sake alone that it was imputed to him, but also for us.’ What Paul is saying is imputed righteousness is for all who believe. His next statement is, ‘It shall be imputed to us who believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead.’ This means that acceptance with God has always been by the imputed righteousness of Christ. Paul is connecting Abraham to us and us to him as all being saved the same way. This is why Peter said, ‘nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.’ Despite those who have wrongly divided the word of truth, Christ has always been the way, the truth, and the life. He is the Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world.
Our Glorious, Living God,
we rejoice in Your one way of salvation.
We praise You that Christ is the very heart of that way.
