According To His Purpose

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.  

Romans 8:28 

God is proactive. He knows the end from the beginning and has ordained whatsoever comes to pass. He is not waiting to see how things will go so He can react appropriately. Thus, when it comes to the matter of redemption, He is as purposeful as He is in all other things. The text on which we have been mediating lately declares that He works all thing together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Here we find that God has called these people because He has a larger end in view. That scheme is such that these people whom He has called have a role in it. It is a role that relates to all the members of the Trinity, but most particularly to Christ. The rest of the passage makes it clear. These people will be ‘conformed to the image of His Son.’ These are people who having received Christ also receive all that comes with Him. Because of Christ’s work, no charges can be brought against them. No one and nothing can separate them from the love of Christ. This relationship makes them more than conquerors. They are members of the family of God performing His will for them in the unfolding drama of human history. Thus, He works all things together for their good because He is leading them to the home, He has been preparing for them.  

Our Glorious, Living God, 
we rejoice at Your perfect plan. 
We praise You that You will accomplish 
all Your will, both in and for Your people.
