To Scatter Abroad

To Scatter Abroad

He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad.

Matthew 12:30

How do we scatter abroad, if we do not gather with Christ? This is a hard conclusion. Christ has made a definitive, polarizing statement. He has drawn the line that, ‘He who is not with me is against me.’ He has gone so far as to say that if a person does not gather with Me, he ‘scatters abroad.’ Can we, simply by refusing to embrace Christ as the Gospel offers Him be therefore against Him? Apparently, we can be. If we do not actively gather with Him, do we therefore scatter abroad, or oppose His cause? Apparently, we do. Is this where we want to be and what we want to do? Christ has lived perfectly, died sacrificially, arisen powerfully, intercedes perpetually, and is coming gloriously. Do we want to be in the position of having ignored His Person and work, thus placing ourselves against Him, even so far as to have scattered as opposed to having gathered? Surely, there is a better way. To embrace Christ is to be with Him. To gather with Him is to promote His Person, His work and to advance His Kingdom. Let us be with Christ and not against Him, to gather and not to scatter.

Our Wise and Wonderful God,
we rejoice that You have set Your truth
so clearly before us.
We praise You that have given unto us the great privilege
of gathering with Christ.
