To Your Old Age

To Your Old Age

Even to your old age, I am He, and even to gray hairs I will carry you! I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.

Isaiah 46:4

God is a God for all seasons of life. We may have embraced Christ as children. Our early days of walking with God may have been times of great increase in our spiritual knowledge. We may have been full of zeal, some of it wise, and some of it unwise. We may have followed Christ through the busy period of life, being married, having children, pursuing work, and trying to keep up. Some of us, after years of seeking to imitate Christ, may have found ourselves toward the end of life. We are not as energetic as we once were. Our memory is becoming somewhat unreliable. We have the white or ‘hoar’ hairs of which our text speaks. What is left for us? We have the promises of God He. He knew us before we were born. He chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world. He has predestinated us to the adoption of children by Christ Jesus. He has led us every step of our pilgrim pathway. Now we are advancing in age. As we grow more incapable, He shows Himself to be more capable. As we fail, He upholds and even carries us. He is the same Jesus, yesterday, today, and forever. Therefore, we do not approach the end of life with fear or a sense of despair. He will bear us up all the way to His eternal kingdom. Jesus never fails.

God of Grace and Glory,
we rejoice that You have led us safely thus far.
We have every confidence that You will lead us home.
