The Hour Is Coming

Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth, those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.
John 5:28-29
We live in the last days. The Scripture makes that quite clear. Whether we cite Peter’s remarks on the day of Pentecost or refer to the statements of the writer of Hebrews it is apparent that we are drawing close to the end of the age. One of the most significant events of that ending is the return of Christ. At His return, there will be the resurrection of the dead to which our text refers. Christ was not vague about this. He foretold the resurrection and the last judgment in clear, precise language. In Matthew 25, He describes the last judgment in detail. There is also the return of Christ motif in I Thessalonians part of which refers to the resurrection of the dead. Taken together all these things support Christ’s statement in our text. Regardless of what any of us think about it, Christ was convinced it was coming. We either believe Him and are convinced of what He thought, or we reject it, and Him in the process. Whether this resurrection occurs in this century or millennium or at some future point in time, the fact remains it is coming sooner or later. We have this moment in time to prepare for that one. We can seize this day. Then the faith shall be sight. The clouds will be rolled back as a scroll. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
Our Glorious, Living Savior,
we rejoice that You are going to return.
We praise You that this is the hope of all Your people.
