While You Have The Light

Then Jesus said to them, A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light. These things Jesus spoke, and departed, and was hidden from them.

John 12:35-36

Christ was running out of time. He was fully aware that the events were unfolding rapidly that would bring Him to the cross. He had a sense of urgency to accomplish all that was necessary before those final hours. Therefore, as He addressed the people who followed Him, He urged them to make the most of the opportunity they had to receive His revelations of Himself. He said to them, ‘While you have the light believe in the light.’ They lived in the golden age of gospel opportunity. The very Word of God stood before them. They had opportunities no generation before them and none after them would ever have. If there was ever a moment in history to believe in Christ, this was it. Christ imparted that truth to them. Christ’s light is still available in the world. We cannot see Christ as they did but we have read their witness. The day of darkness has not so descended upon the earth yet that the gospel does not go forth. We can still make much of Christ. We can still hold Him aloft to shed light abroad. The day of gospel opportunity has not passed. Therefore, we also urge you to believe in the light. He is still available for all Who will hear His message.

Our Glorious Living Savior,
we rejoice that You are the Light of the World.
We praise You that You shed abroad Your light,
to those who sit in darkness.
