Eagerly Waiting

So Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
Hebrews 9:28
Jesus is coming again. We know this because He said so, ‘And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.’ If this was the only occasion, it would be sufficient for us to believe it. The last three quotations from the mouth of Christ in the last chapter of the Bible are, ‘I am coming quickly.’ John’s response to the third occasion is, ‘Even so, come, Lord Jesus.’ John was eagerly waiting for Christ to return. We are with him. Christ has come at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. This means that we are two thousand years closer to the final conclusion of the age. The signal event of the end of the age is the return of Christ. All other events as climactic, and cataclysmic as they may be, pale by contrast to His return. We are either eagerly waiting for Him or hoping He never shows. For some, the return of Christ brings a calling to account they sincerely hope to avoid. If we are eagerly awaiting His return, it is because He has redeemed us by free and sovereign grace. We are looking forward to Him executing judgment, justice and making all things new. We say with John, ‘Even so, come, Lord Jesus.’
Our Great God and our Savior,
we rejoice that You will come again.
We praise You that it is the hope
of all Your believing people.
