He Did Not Spare

He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?
Romans 8:32
God paid the full price for our redemption. We receive it free, but it cost Him His only begotten Son. Our text begins with the words, ‘He who did not spare His own Son.’ What was the alternative? It was to spare His Son and redeem no one. Thus, every life would end in eternal punishment. There would be no salvation, no eternal life, no good future for anyone. God did not spare His own Son because He would redeem and this was the only way for redemption to occur. This reflects upon the loving character of God. He could have taken the easy way out, but He did not. Salvation is expensive, but God was willing to pay the price and Christ was as well. He was willing not to be spared. Everything Christ did He did willingly and without coercion. Therefore, we whom He has redeemed, can appreciate in some small way what it meant for God to make so great a sacrifice in order to secure our eternal well-being. He spared not His own Son.
Our Gracious and Loving God,
we rejoice at the sacrifice of Your Son.
We praise You that because You have not spared Him,
You can spare us.
