From The Power Of Darkness

He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.
Colossians 1:13-14
We should remember our own personal history. If we do, we will glorify God and magnify Christ. We began life under the power of darkness. Because our first parents broke the covenant, we have become the inheritors of depravity. As Paul puts it we were by nature children of wrath. This means we walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air. Part of the work which God has done to deliver us from the power of darkness and convey us into the kingdom of Christ is what Paul describes when he says, ‘but God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved).’ We were subjects of Satan, living under the power of darkness until the Holy Spirit regenerated us, brought us to repentance, gave us faith, and brought us into the kingdom of the Son of His love. This was our liberation. We were in bondage and now are free. We were in darkness and are now in the light. God has done this great work and brought us a long way. Therefore, as we dwell on what He has done, we do so in the memory of the darkness of where we began.
Our Almighty and Gracious God,
we rejoice at Your liberating work.
We praise You that You have freely given to us
what we could never gain on our own.
