I Saw The Lord

I Saw The Lord

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried to another and said: Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory! And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.

Isaiah 6:1-4

The book of Isaiah is full of Christ. Some students of Scripture have referred to him as, ‘the Evangelical Prophet.’ In the text before us, Isaiah declares he saw Jehovah ‘high and lifted up.’ Isaiah saw Christ who is Jehovah. We can say this authoritatively based upon the words of John in the twelfth chapter of his gospel, when he quotes this chapter in reference to Christ and adds the words, ‘These things Isaiah said when he saw His glory and spoke of Him.’ It is important for us to understand Who Isaiah saw. We often emphasize the importance of seeing Christ in the Scriptures. On page after page Christ is there. We want to remember that the Apostles preached Christ during the whole New Testament era by using the Old Testament. On the road to Emmaus, Christ revealed Himself to the two disciples by beginning at Moses and all the Prophets to expound to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself. Therefore it is important for us to embrace a whole God, a whole Christ, and a whole Bible wherein God reveals Christ to us again and again. As we read the Scriptures, we want to cry out, as the Greeks of old. ‘Sirs, we would see Jesus.’ The Scriptures show Him everywhere.

Our Glorious Living God,
we rejoice that You show us Christ
throughout the Scriptures.
We praise You that as we see Him there,
You lift us up.
