Lord

And Elijah appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.
Mark 9:4
We want to have a clear and accurate understanding of who Christ is. This is a person about Whom we cannot afford to be mistaken. The text before us comes from an incident in the life of Christ when He was just returning from the Mount of Transfiguration. There, Peter, James, and John had beheld His glory. As Christ was returning, He encountered a great multitude gathered around the disciples who were involved in a dispute with the religionists over a demon-possessed boy. The father of the boy had brought him to the disciples, in the absence of Christ, to cast out the demon. The disciples had not succeeded. In desperation the man appealed to Christ saying that the disciples had failed. When Christ inquired regarding the demon possession, the father concluded his answer with, ‘But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.’ Jesus said to him, ‘If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.’ The man responded with the words of our text. He began to address Christ as Lord. If we are going to come to Christ, we should understand to Whom we are coming. We are coming to the Lord. Christ is many things. He is the Redeemer; Mediator; the Good, Great and Chief Shepherd; the Root and Offspring of David; the Bright and Morning Star, but above all else, He is the Lord. In matters of faith, when all seems hopeless, let us look to the Lord.
Our Gracious Master and our God,
we rejoice that God, Your Father, has given You all authority.
We praise You that every knee shall bow,
and tongue confess, You are Lord.
