Drawn To Christ

Drawn To Christ

And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.

John 12:32

How does Christ draw us to Him? He remarks that if He is lifted up He will draw all peoples to Himself. How does that happen? The key to the answer lies in the work of the Holy Spirit. He is the One Who works to bring us to Christ. Christ refers to this earlier in the Gospel of John, ‘It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The works that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.’ According to Christ the Spirit convicts first, and then converts. When He was explaining the work of the Spirit in the world He said, ‘And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.’ Thus the Holy Spirit works to bring us to Christ. He regenerates us, gives us repentance and faith to believe. He comes to indwell us and continues to guide us into all truth. The Holy Spirit is the Chief Executive Officer of redemption. What Christ has purchased for us, the Holy Spirit applies to all for whom God intends it. Christ speaks to the Spirit’s success by saying, ‘All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.’ We owe an immeasurable amount of gratitude to the Holy Spirit, Who takes the things of Christ and shows then to us.

Our Great God and our Savior,
we rejoice in the work of Your Holy Spirit.
We praise You that because He does work,
we have eternal life.
