Servant Leadership

You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. If then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.
John 13:13-14
Christ was the quintessential servant leader. Everything we know about His incarnation, Person, and work leads us to this conclusion. He came to earth to ‘save His people from their sins.’ His whole life fulfilled the law of God for the sake of others. His atoning sacrifice was for the sake of others. His resurrection was for others because it guaranteed their resurrection. His ascension, which paved the way for the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the disciples was for the sake of others. His perpetual intercession is for the sake of others. His return in glory will be for the sake of others. This is the essence of servant leadership. If we want to learn to recognize the highest form of leadership, Christ demonstrates it in every way. In this example He assumed the role of a servant to perform a menial task to set a permanent example. Thus servant leadership is the most important to learn. We can learn it in no better place than at the feet of Christ.
Our Holy and Wise God,
we rejoice that You are our Great Example.
We praise You that as we follow You,
we learn to lead as You do.
