Faith Revealed

Faith Revealed

And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said, Who touched My clothes? But His disciples said to Him, You see the multitude thronging You, and you say, Who touched Me? And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. But the women, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. And He said to her, Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.

Mark 5:30-34

Christ has a way of bringing faith to the fore. In the passage before us, Christ stops and asks ‘Who touched my clothes?’ He realized that power had gone out of Him. The disciples pragmatically asked, ‘You see the multitude thronging You, and You say, Who touched Me?’ Christ wanted to engage the woman directly. ‘But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth.’ Christ responded, ‘Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.’ Thus, Christ revealed her faith. It is so with us. We have faith. We believe Christ, His promises and His Almighty Power. We are often like the woman. We want Christ to act, but are not seeking the spotlight. Yet Christ has a way of bringing our faith out into the open and revealing it for being what it is, true faith in Him. We may feel like the woman, ‘fearing and trembling,’ yet Christ does not reveal our faith to berate and mock us, but rather to show others what faith is and how it behaves. If we have sought Christ by faith in secret, we should not be surprised to see Him reveal our faith for His glory.

Our Holy and Wise God,
we rejoice that You do all things well.
We praise You that You reveal faith,
to accomplish Your will.
