Not Forsaken Or Abandoned

Not Forsaken Or Abandoned

For the Lord will not cast off his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance.

Psalm 94:14

God is loyal.  He is loyal to His people as a father and mother are to their children.  He is loyal as a good king is to his faithful subjects.  He is loyal as a true friend is to a friend.  These are all earthly illustrations of loyalty which Christ demonstrates to the superlative degree.  Within the context of the passage wherein our text lies we find that the psalmist is struggling with the prosperity of the wicked.  Ultimately he arrives at peace with his knowledge of the faithfulness of God.  In our text for today he articulates that the character of God is such that He, ‘will not cast off His people, nor will He forsake His inheritance.’  What does this mean in terms of how God will deal with those who oppress His people? Revelation gives us graphic illustrations of Christ’s return to render judgment and justice against all who are His Own enemies, and the enemies of His people.  His Presence is so terrifying to the wicked that they plead for the mountains and rocks to, ‘Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb.’  Christ does not forsake or abandon His people and does not fail to repay their persecutors.  Thus, we rest our cause in His faithful, loyal and Almighty Hands.  Jesus never fails.

Our Holy and Righteous God,
we rejoice in Your faithfulness to Your people.
We praise You that You will demonstrate Your loyalty to us
and do all that is good and right.

Divine Instruction

Divine Instruction

Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O Lord, and teachest him out of thy law; that thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit be digged for the wicked.

Psalm 94:12-13

God teaches those who are His.  As the psalmist considers the prosperity of the wicked, the Lord continues to give him insights into spiritual truth which enables him to come to terms with the circumstances which he is facing.  He understands that there will come a time when ‘the wicked’ will descend into ‘the pit’ which, in many ways they have dug for themselves.  As we read elsewhere in Scripture, ‘their foot shall slide in due time.’  Until then, how shall we gain wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of God and of His ways?  This will bring us to Christ.  If we are to learn anything of God, we will find that Christ is our Divine Instructor.  ‘No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.’  Regardless of how else God may communicate His truth to us, every thread of the fabric runs through the Person of Christ.  All theology rightly understood relates to Christ.  When Christ said to Philip, ‘He who has seen me has seen the Father,’ He was articulating that Christ is all there is for us to see of God.  Therefore, our instruction from God invariably relates to Christ in one way or another.  This makes us ‘blessed’ indeed, and enables us to ‘rest from the days of adversity, until the pit is dug for the wicked.’  Today is a day for looking to Christ to instruct us in the ways of God.

Our Wise and Wonderful God,
we rejoice that You have given Christ unto us
as our Divine Instructor.
We praise You that as we learn of Him,
we will come to a better understanding of all that is around us.
