Enjoying Heaven Now

And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. …

Revelation 22:  3 & 4

We are, as the redeemed of Christ, an already privileged people.  Predestination, election, calling, justification, adoption, sanctification all speak eloquently of our blessed relationship with the eternal God, based completely upon the merits of Christ.  With these privileges there are already many practical enjoyments for our encouragement.  There is our peace with God, as well as the peace of God, forgiveness of sins and joy in the Holy Ghost to name a few.

Yet, there is hope derived from the reality of the glorious things that await us as God’s children.  Our text for today points out to us just three of the privileges of eternity of which we may enjoy a foretaste now.  The first of these privileges is that of perfect service for Christ.  The closing line of verse three is ‘His servants shall serve Him.’ We can enjoy the privilege of serving God now with the certain knowledge of God’s hand upon us, all the while realizing that there comes the day when we will be enabled to serve Him perfectly.  This is the delightful prospect for all of us who, while we enjoy serving Christ now, grieve over our present inability to serve Him perfectly.

When we are in glory, we will bask in the reality of a perpetual sight of Christ.  Now we ‘see through a glass darkly; but then face to face.’  We see by faith today; we shall see the perfect, perpetual sight then.

Finally, our text proclaims that ‘His name shall be in their foreheads.’  We have an earnest expectation of the permanent sign of Christ upon us.  Already, we have the marks of grace, but then that identification with Christ will be brought forth to the full.

Father God,

Help us enjoy today

a foretaste of what will be

for all eternity.
