He Restores My Soul
He Restores My Soul
He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.
Psalm 23:3
How often does our soul want restoring? Many things in life will wear, burden and weary our soul. They may be things physical, which have a burdening effect, or things mental, which drive us to great unsettledness. Friends may fail, or foes assail. We may find ourselves beset with a multitude of anxious thoughts, as the Psalmist says elsewhere. All these things, and a multitude besides, may deplete the fortitude of our soul. Christ is the answer for all these soul-depleting forces. Our text declares, ‘He restores my soul.’ He restores my soul with His Presence; loneliness exacerbates every hardship of life. Christ sees to it that we are never alone. That, of itself, has soul-restoring power. He restores my soul by providing, not just physical food and drink, but a daily spiritual provision through the means of grace. When I am famished for lack of spiritual food, He restores my soul by showing me Himself in the Word. He restores my soul by causing His ‘goodness and mercy’ to follow me every day. He satisfies my mind regarding thoughts that would deplete my soul by their weight and savagery. He assures me that, ‘no weapons formed against you shall prosper.’ Over and over again, my testimony is, ‘He restores my soul.’ Go forth today, believing Saint with a rejoicing heart, and a restored soul.
Our Great Shepherd, we rejoice in You,
and in Your restoration of our soul.
You are the Living, Loving and True God.
