His Favor is For Life

For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.

Psalm 30:5

The Scripture abounds with abundant assurances for the people of God. Our text today is one such assurance. The ‘favor’ of God is nothing less than His overwhelming grace. That grace is eternally ancient in its origin. Christ has ever been the Great Lover of His elect. His Face has been, is and shall ever be toward those whom the Father has given Him. Before He spoke the worlds into existence, hung the stars burning in their sconces, set the planets spinning around them, and the moons in their orbits, Christ had His people upon His Eternal Mind and His Beating Heart.

His Favor is not just for our life; His favor is for His life. It existed before our lives began, continues throughout the life we now live, and shall continue for all eternity. The older King James Version translates the phrase, ‘In His favor is life.’ In truth, the Grace of Christ toward us is what makes life for us. To His disciples, He declared, ‘Because I live, you shall live also.’ The Life of Christ is tied up with the Life of His people. Because He is the Head, it guarantees life to the Body. Because He is the Bridegroom, it guarantees the securing, maintaining and guarding of the life of the Bride. Rejoice today, O Saint of God; His favor is for life. You shall not just live in time, but for eternity, and that abundantly.
