Christ’s Indestructible Kingdom

I make a decree that in every dominion of my kingdom men must tremble and fear before the God of Daniel. For He is the living God, And steadfast forever; His kingdom is the one which shall not be destroyed, And His dominion shall endure to the end.

Daniel 6:26

Darius the Mede was all about kingdoms. He ruled, as King over the Medo-Persian Empire. After God had delivered Daniel from the lions’ den. Darius makes a telling statement which serves as our text today. He says, ‘His kingdom is the one which shall not be destroyed.’ In his heart, Darius knew that eventually everything he established would crumble to dust. Unto this pagan, God gave this insight, that God’s Kingdom shall never crumble. The Crown Prince, and Reigning Monarch of the Kingdom is Christ. His humiliation gives way to His exaltation. ‘Wherefore God also has highly exalted Him, and given Him a name that is above every name. That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth. And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.’ In the simplest of terms, Christ has ruled; does rule; and shall rule. He ruled as Creator, for ‘all things were made by Him.’ He ruled as the Son of God, for the demons, the winds, the waves and even the Specter of Death was subject unto Him. He rules now, for He has conquered Death, and sits upon His Throne. He shall rule, for He is returning in clouds of Glory with His Army at His back, ‘King of Kings and Lord of Lords.’ Every earthly king, and every earthly kingdom shall give way to this King. ‘His Kingdom is the one which shall not be destroyed.’  It is a great comfort to us that, ‘we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.’

Great King of Heaven,
we bow before You,
King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
We rejoice in Your never-ending Kingdom,
And in Your never-failing Rule.
