The Maker of the Worlds

God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds.

Hebrews 1:1,2

Our text today underscores the truth of yesterday’s text. Christ is, the ‘Heir of all things’ because, He also, made the worlds. That which God the Father employed Christ the Son to create, He, that is Christ, has the right to rule. Having said that, let us, for a few moments contemplate what it means that Christ ‘made the worlds.’ Did Christ ‘make’ all those seemingly limitless galaxies, with all those stars, all those worlds, all those moons, and all those expanses? Yes…yes, He did. Bringing it down to the tiniest observable creature in our experience, did He ‘make’ them also? Yes, indeed, He did. Did He make that tiny little, curiously- wrought hummingbird, busily flitting about? Yes, again, He did. Now, let us pause for a moment of self-contemplation. In all these ‘makings,’ did Christ make any errors? Our understanding of theology tells us, No, He did not. He has done all things well. If that is true, then has He made any errors in the way in which He has made us? Again, our understanding of sound theology tells us, No, He did not. If that is true, then I should be conscious of what I am doing when I refuse to accept what He has done in how He has made me. This does not mean I need no improvement, nor that I have no sin to confess, or places to progress.  What it does mean, however, is that He, who has ‘made the worlds,’ has not erred in making me as I am, for His Glory. He has made me and He will perfect me. He will not fail in anything.
