The Redeeming Christ
The Redeeming Christ
And Boaz said to the elders and all the people, “You are witnesses this day that I have bought all that was Elimelech’s, and all that was Chilion’s and Mahlon’s, from the hand of Naomi. Moreover, Ruth the Moabitess, the widow of Mahlon, I have acquired as my wife, to perpetuate the name of the dead through his inheritance, that the name of the dead may not be cut off from among his brethren and from his position at the gate. You are witnesses this day.” (9,10)
Ruth 4
Our meditation upon the first three chapters of Ruth have brought us to this last, and most Christ-filled chapter. We have observed, the Hidden Christ, the Providential Christ, and the Willing Christ. We now find Christ revealed as the Great Redeemer of His People. Boaz plays the part fully and gloriously. He takes the initiative; sees to every detail; secures his bride and ultimately establishes a royal lineage. This is a glorious picture of the work of Christ. Christ takes the initiative in the purchase of our redemption at every turn. He overcomes all contentions, and every contender. He addresses every outstanding issue, and attends to every detail. Not one element of our redemption does Christ treat with anything less then the full attention which it warrants. He declares, as did Boaz, that He will unerringly, infallibly, inexorably make this woman to be His Chosen Bride. He accomplishes all that is necessary to both make her his own and to return to the family all that was lost by their poor decisions. Moreover, having accomplished this redemption, Boaz, establishes with this redeemed woman, a right royal lineage. Boaz fathered Jesse who fathered David, who, as the King of Israel, became, in human terms the progenitor of Christ, Whose Kingdom shall never fade, nor be destroyed. Christ is our Grand and Glorious Redeemer. He is the Great Redeemer of All of His Saints, for all time, and for all eternity.
Our Gracious Redeeming Christ,
You are our Hope Forever.
Everything we are or ever hope to be,
is due to Your Redeeming Grace.
