Your Kingdom Come

Thy Kingdom come.

Matthew 6:10

Every Kingdom advances by expansion into the territory of its enemies. As Christ taught His disciples to pray, He said that they should pray for the advancement of Christ’s Kingdom. Based upon the other things which Christ said regarding His Kingdom, this is a prayer He is sure to answer and to answer gloriously. Christ said, ‘I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.’ Christ is Personally advancing the expansion of His Kingdom. He is doing it by the salvation of His elect. He is advancing it by the preaching of the Gospel. He is advancing it by transforming His people into little likenesses of Himself. He advances His kingdom by overruling all things for His Own Glory and working all things together for the good of His people. He advances His Kingdom in all locations, not just here upon the earth, but everywhere, terrestrial, and extra-terrestrial. He shall not cease to advance His Kingdom until all things are subdued under His Feet, and ‘every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess, that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.’ When we pray, ‘Your Kingdom come, these are the things for which we are praying. Our first desire, certainly, is that Christ will advance His Kingdom in us. So today, as we approach the Throne of Grace, let this be, in a most personal way, our earnest petition, ‘Your Kingdom come.’ So, let it come, in all our hearts.

Our Great Savior, and our Conquering King,
we rejoice that Your Kingdom rules over all;
that You will hold sway, in every place,
over all of the affairs, of all of humanity, world without end,
Amen and Amen
