‘I Come Quickly’

‘I Come Quickly’

Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book….And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be….He which testifieth these things saith, surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Revelation 22:7,12, 20

God always makes good on His Word. ‘God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and shall He not do it? Or has He spoken, and shall He not make it good?’  The Unaltering, Unchangeable, Unimpeachable Character of God is such, that if He has said something once we may expect it to inevitably come to pass. How much more may we expect it to be so when He reiterates the same thing, the same way, three times, in one location?  We have before us three verses which appear in the last chapter of Scripture.  Here is the three-fold promise of the Risen, Ascended Christ, ‘I come quickly.’ From that three-fold utterance, what must we conclude? Christ is going to return, quickly and unquestionably. Of what practical value is this knowledge to us?  How will I live today, if I know that He is coming quickly? What urgency will it lend to my prayers for my lost companions, if I know that He is coming quickly? What compassion will I exercise toward the benighted souls around me if I know that He is coming quickly? With what boldness will I proclaim Christ, to all and sundry, if I know that He is coming quickly? Three times, the King of Glory has declared that He is coming quickly. Let me therefore put forth three times more fervency, three times more love, three times more earnestness, three times more devotion. With the writer of Revelation, also, let my eager soul exclaim, ‘Even so, come Lord Jesus.’

Our Glorified and Risen Lord, we look forward to the day
when we shall see You Face to face.
We pray until that day, that You will keep us faithful
and looking unto You the Author and Finisher of our faith.
