Postscript
Postscript
The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.
Matthew 11:19
As Christ concludes His remarks regarding the fault-finding generation who criticized His choice of friends, He remarks, ‘But wisdom is justified by her children.’ Here is Christ’s Divine Postscript to His commentary upon hypocrites and their hypocrisy. In short, what He is saying is, that spiritually wise people will see the wisdom of His actions. As we said before, Christ declared that He came to call sinners to repentance. He boldly declared that He did not come to call the self-righteous. To whom then does Christ show Himself to be a Friend?’ Christ is the Friend of the broken. He is the Friend of the weak and helpless soul who sits apart in darkness and in isolation. Christ is the Friend of the desolate, the poor, and the unable. This is the behavior which the self-righteous finds so abhorrent, to which Christ responds, ‘wisdom is justified by her children.’ The spiritually wise person sees the wisdom of Christ’s actions. Christ will seek out that isolated soul and be its’ Great Companion. Christ will enable the unable. Christ will be the Light for the one who sits in darkness. Christ will be the wealth of the impoverished soul. Christ knows best how to minister to all these ‘publicans and sinners.’ He transforms us into ‘kings and priests,’ and ‘wisdom is justified by her children.’ The wisdom of God is wisdom enough.
Our most Holy and Wise God,
we praise You that You do all things well.
We rejoice today that You are ever Good,
Kind and Gracious to those of us who are of low estate.
