I Have Told You
I Have Told You
And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.”
Matthew 28:7
God ordains His Messengers to declare His Truth. In our text today we will concentrate on the closing affirmation of the angel who interacted with the faithful women who had come to the tomb on the resurrection morning. He demonstrates the pattern for the behavior of the faithful messengers of God’s Truth. Notice, please, several things about him and his impartation of his message. He was a messenger of action. It was he who, ‘rolled back the stone from the door.’ So, Christ’s messengers are not ‘armchair theologians’ or religious theoreticians. They are people of practical action. Also, we find that he fulfilled his primary purpose of making much of Christ. His message was full of Christ. Though it was brief, it was powerful. In the communication of his message, he pointed to verifiable truth regarding Christ. ‘He is not here, He is risen,’ are statements which were facts. An examination, over the course of time would prove that He had, indeed, risen from the dead. The true messengers of God’s Truth proclaim what is verifiable. ‘We have not followed cunningly devised fables.’ The true messengers of God’s truth stand upon what they have themselves ‘seen and heard,’ or upon the testimonies of eyewitnesses, who have agreed about the incidences of which they were a part. Today, let us consider the veracity of the truths they utter. Let us consider the blessing of believing their testimony, ‘Behold, I have told you.’
O, God of Grace and Truth,
we rejoice that You do not leave us in ignorance.
We rejoice that You appoint to us, Your faithful messengers,
who faithfully declare the whole counsel of God.
