Where is Christ Today?

For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us….

Hebrews 9:24

We have been considering of late the resurrection of Christ. Today, let us spend some time considering the logical follow-on of that. Christ rose from the dead, as all the Gospels confirm. Acts 1 speaks to the matter of His Ascension. This raises the question, where is Christ now? Hebrews has much to say regarding this. Our text for today declares, ‘For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us.’  This answers the question. Christ is now appearing in the Presence of God, His Father. In the coming days we will, in the will of God, consider what Christ is doing there, and why it is important to us. For the moment, let us consider the bare fact that He, Our Great High Priest, has entered into the Presence of God for us. The High Priest, in ancient Israel, entered into the Holy of Holies to represent the chosen people of God before God Himself. He was the mediator between God and men. So Christ, having offered Himself as the Perfect Sacrifice, now enters into the Presence of God His Father as the Great Mediator and Representative of His Elect. This, is for us, a blessed assurance. If we could pick one person to represent us before the Throne of Omnipotence, Who better than Christ could fulfill that role? Who understands us better? Who has done more to secure our acceptance with God? Who has earned the right to represent us more completely? If we are to have a representative before God, it must be Christ, and Christ Alone. He is Our Head and will represent us well.

Our Great God and Savior,
we rejoice that You represent us at the High Throne of Heaven,
we praise You that You ever live to make intercession for us,
and that Your objective plea must prevail.
