God’s Pleasure in His People

For the Lord takes pleasure in His people….

Psalm 149:4

We come today to consider what brings God pleasure. It is perhaps a matter of some surprise to us that, ‘the Lord, takes pleasure in His people.’ We may find that takes us somewhat aback. How could a Holy, Righteous God take pleasure in one such as I? Certainly, ‘in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing.’ The answer lies in the Person of Christ. God can take pleasure in us because of Christ. He took pleasure in us when He chose us ‘in Christ before the foundation of the world.’ He took pleasure in us when He granted unto us regeneration, repentance unto life, and gave us faith to believe. He took pleasure in us when He indwelt us with the Holy Spirit. He takes pleasure in us as He, ‘renews us in the whole person after the Image of God, and enables us to die, more and more unto sin and to live unto righteousness.’ He shall continue to take pleasure in us when He conforms us completely to being like Christ on the day that we, ‘see Him as He is.’ This is a great encouragement to us. We bask in the sunlight of Our Heavenly Father’s Approval.  It encourages us to ‘grow in grace and in the knowledge of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.’ Today, let our souls rejoice and magnify the Loving, Gracious God, and Our Redeeming Christ Who, ‘takes pleasure in His people.’

Our Kind and Loving God,
we praise You that You take pleasure in us Your people,
for Jesus’ Sake.
Evermore conform us to His Image,
that we may grow to be more like Him,
until that day when we see Him as He is.
