I Have Come

I Have Come

I Have Come

I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

John 10:10

The passage from which our text arises is delightful for the graphic imagery which Christ employs as He presents Himself as the Good Shepherd. Herein lies a veritable treasure trove of texts upon which we can meditate. One that appeals very readily serves as our text for the next several days, ‘I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.’ This brings us to dwell first upon the Person Who has ‘come.’ Christ declares, ‘I have come.’ Who is He Who has come? We have but to look a few verses away to find Christ revealing Himself. He is, ‘the Good Shepherd, the Door, and the Son of God.’ He is, ‘the Way, the Truth and the Life.’ He is, ‘the Seed of the woman,’ in Genesis and ‘the root and the offspring of David and the bright and morning star’ of Revelation. He is, ‘Wonderful, Counsellor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.’ He is, ‘the Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world.’ He is, ‘the Holy One of Israel,’ and ‘the Prophet, like unto Moses.’ He is, ‘the Lion of the tribe of Judah, and the Lord of Glory.’ He is, ‘Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.’ We may pile title upon title, for page after page, and these would only be indicators of Who Christ really is in all His Fullness. Of all the personages who have ever arrived upon the scene of human history, this is the One Who matters most. We rejoice to hear Him say, ‘I have come.’

O, Glorious Christ, Son of the Living God,
we rejoice in Your arrival upon this scene of time.
We praise You, that every day you reveal unto us
more of Your Own Great Self.
