‘I Am…The Truth’
‘I Am…The Truth’
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
John 14:6
God is Truth. He is the Sum of all moral perfections. Christ is, ‘the brightness of His Glory, and the express image of His Person.’ Christ is all there is to see of God; ‘He that has seen me has seen the Father.’ Therefore, it is utterly appropriate for Christ to say, ‘I Am…the Truth.’ We considered yesterday Christ’s statement, ‘I am the Way.’ Let us, please, dwell upon some of the implications of what it means for Christ to say, ‘I am…the Truth.’ Pilate asked, perhaps sarcastically, ‘What is Truth?’ The fact is that kings and counsellors, poets and philosophers, have sought to understand this thing called, ‘Truth.’ In Christ, we see the Embodiment of Truth. He is Truth as it appears in love. He is Truth as it appears in joy. He is Truth as it appears in peace, in longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance. ‘If we would see genuine moral and spiritual veracity in a single repository of Personhood, then we must ‘look full in His Wonderful Face.’ All these wonderful works are but illustrations of His Character. This makes Christ the True North for all who seek Truth. No code of morality, no philosophy, however carefully contrived or closely reasoned, can ever begin to compete with this Person. If we would know truth, then we must know Christ. The more we know of Christ, the more we will know of Truth. ‘I am…the Truth.’
Our most Gracious and Holy Savior,
we rejoice today that You are the Truth.
We praise You, that in showing us Your Own Great Self,
You show us all that is good and right.
